The idea to create Feminine Beauty and sculpt vulva art and jewellery came to me during COVID-19 and the lockdown. It’s fair to say that COVID-19 has affected a lot of people in multiple different ways. For me personally it meant that I was unable to continue my cherished work as a yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner so I waited for inspiration to hit… and it did!
I was inspired to create something that would represent bodies in a beautiful, liberating and freeing way. Being someone who has struggled with body image and self acceptance myself I wanted to promote body positivity and encourage others to embrace the perfect imperfections of their own bodies all without pulling any punches or reducing the impact of our individual and collective feminine beauty.
This was the birth of Feminine Beauty – both my company and the individual pieces that I create. For me, these pieces show the beauty of everyone whilst leaving the purpose unspoken.
I’m a huge supporter of becoming the very best version of yourself and in exploring and discovering different aspects to find your true self. The reason I chose to include vulvas in my artwork and jewellery is because they directly relate to feminism and individuality. Each one is unique like a flower or a snowflake and they are admired so why isn’t the human body thought of in the same way? Every one of our bodies is a natural work of art. Insecurity around vulvas is something that causes a lot of body confidence issues and tends to not be talked about in the same way other parts of the body are. I have spoken to so many women who have issues around the way their vulva looks and it stops them from enjoying their bodies or sex without judgement.
Focusing my art on vulvas is not to exclude men in anyway. It is to encourage normalisation and acceptance of our bodies as they are, without feeling the need to mask or hide the parts of us that we feel uncomfortable about just because society has told us they look wrong. I’m not saying we all need to start flashing our tits and fannnies but just normalising the fact that each body on this planet is perfectly unique, and that is true beauty! so many people are self-conscious about what their bodies look like. I myself have suffered with self-confidence, negative self image, eating disorder and mental health issues primarily brought on by trying to cope with living in a society where I’m expected to fit in to a box I don’t want to be in. Being forced to live in this environment is so damaging to your sense of self and your confidence, how are we supposed to shine in a world where you don’t feel accepted? My yoni creations are a way to show that EVERY part of a body is beautiful no matter what and, collectively, I think we need to celebrate and embrace our differences because it’s what makes us the wonderful work of art that we are!
